Prices will continue to be pressured…

Pricing in the solar industry will continue to face pressure as some countries lighten the incentive plans in the face of budget pressures and the fact that the cost of installation is far down, therefore some ROI’s are out of reason.

The market always finds a way to bring balance back. What this will mean is lower costs of installs as there is some overcapacity, as well as further buildouts of new CdTe facilities, still the lowest cost per watt to produce. Despite the word “cadmium”, First Solar has found a way to mitigate that, and so will others. Its all part of the cost of business.

Look for further applications to sprout as more and more rooftops integrate solar arrays from design stage, and as more and more land which is non-productive is turned into solar farms.

The political landscape doesn’t seem in the mood to rollback the move to green, so I think we’re looking at some reasonable pricing drops for solar power production in the next year…
