iSun Energy’s Top 5 Reasons to NOT go solar

Here they are, in no particular order:

  1. It’s better to wait until solar prices go down

Every day you produce your own solar energy, you start your payback period. If you wait, you will lose out on those early paybacks. If you look at the delta of price drop, while it is significant, it compounds over decades.

  1. You need to live in a warm climate

There’s a common misconception that solar panels only work in hot, California-like weather. Actually, solar panels work by absorbing light from the sun and turns it into usable clean energy. Since they’re not dependent on heat, solar panels work just as well in cold weather given that there’s some sunlight. There are solar panels across the top of Germany, Scandinavia, Scotland, North of Ontario/Quebec/Alberta. Solar panels love light, though they don’t feel the same about heat.

  1. Solar panels take a lot maintenance

For a general cleaning, simply use a standard garden hose to wash the face of the panels in the evening. Avoid spraying cold water onto hot panels or you could risk cracking them.

If you call an occasional cleaning a large maintenance act, then ok, call us high maintenance too.

  1. Fossil fuel energy is more cost effective

Again, you have to determine what is included in the word “cost”. Is it what the oil industry wants you to include, or indeed all costs?

The price of fossil fuels doesn’t include externalities such as damage to the environment during extraction or production, air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. If you include those costs, the price of fossil fuels would actually be much higher than that of renewables.

  1. You can’t take the solar energy system without you.

Well, we would agree with you if it wasn’t for the iSun Oasis being a durable, all-in-one kit. We designed the iSun solar canopies to be transportable, and quick to assemble/disassemble with you.

Oh well, there goes that argument.
