The real wars being played out there are not the ones on the ground, they are the ones in the clouds.
Computer hacking is a known means of acquiring information for little cost. Governments do it. Corporations do it. Governments do it for corporations. Corporations do it for governments.
Just as the Chinese have now established a dominant position in the solar industry value chain, they are now looking to do the same in the electric vehicle industry. We know that BYD believes they will be the largest car marker in the world in a few years, so its interesting to see the Chinese government applying pressures to American car makers to share their EV technology…or else.
The interesting part is that Chinese are basically saying “give us your secrets or don’t have access to our markets”. I wonder what would happen if that would be reversed with…
“share with us some of the profits of your reduced labor force until its costing you as much as ours costs us”.
So we’ve gone from a solar industry war to EV battle which is just forming as governments and their corporate partners begin to create borders. Yet notice Ford’s approach..no borders, no issues. They show strength by not worrying because they know that whatever they share tomorrow, will need upgrades the day after, which they feel confident enough they will be the providers of. Translates.. I am open because I am strong.
