How the WES was won...

Big news today at ICP Solar as we announce the acquisition agreement with WES Power

Its another defining moment for us where we continue to grow our internal intellectual property, this time through acquisition, in our quest to be the leader in innovative products for the renewable energy market. This move towards the power generation market does not mean we are giving up the consumer market. In fact, we are doubling up our efforts in that core market, all the while adding resources to attack the much larger power generation market. And the IP that the team brings with it will have tremendous impact on the next generation of power management systems for the upscale Sunsei(R) brand of solar consumer goods.

We have noticed that our style of customer-centric approach can lead to success in any market which may benefit from our core competencies of innovation and branding in the renewable energy field. We continue to invest in our rooftop tile and the WES products bring a very nice compliment to continue growth in that area of the industry.

Their team is fantastic, full of energy and typical of what I love to see in ICP Solar. It will be an interesting integration of yet another culture (Newfoundland has its own just as does Quebec) into the ICP Solar family. Welcome aboard guys, its going to be a great ride!

You can read more about the purchase at ICP Solar or WES Power websites.

Talk is cheap, yet its a start...

CNN has sponsored a weblog on "fueling america" into the future which gives a sense of what many Americans feel is industry's failure to provide environmentally friendly power alternatives to the petrol engine, while stating clearly that they don't want to give up power, comfort, etc..

So we basically want to have it all, and nobody blames them. The issue is how to pay to get to where alternative fuels (hydrogen, ethanol) are delivering the same or better customer value, as perceived by...the customer.

China Olympics Pollution Problems

The Olympic Committee finally woke up and admitted that some of the events at the 2008 China Olympics may be affected by the pollution problems their rampant growth has created.

I had blogged months ago that this would happen and here we are. Long events such as marathons and cycling will be most affected yet I wonder how athletes are going to feel knowing that the quality of the air will affect their abilities to achieve records?

This is the first evidence that uncontrolled economic growth, with wanton disregard for the environment, is going to cause havoc on the Olympics. Shall we guess what will be added as criteria to the selection committee's list for the next ones?

Carbon Credits for the People

So why should a country or a huge organization be able to trade and claim carbon credits and not you and me? Seems to me that if we take all the savings that individuals could accomplish it might in fact total MORE than what government institutions or corporations can do?

Lots of talk about increasing the value of carbon credits, yet I think we're missing the point. We can have a few organizations making efforts to save carbon, or we can have billions of people making little efforts. Which do you think would yield more results?
