Apple’s retail expansion

Look at Apple stock run (Symbol: AAPL). Now over 300…heading to 400. All with a strategy that in some ways mimics what it had done years before when it sold its devices across numerous retailers. What has changed since is iTunes, Apple Stores, Apple.com and the creation of unique devices that stand alone in how they change the game of communication, work and play.

So today Apple announced that it is breaking its exclusive with AT&T and partnering with Verizon for sales of iPads. Its no wonder that others are eating the dust of Apple. The strategy is depth not range. They don’t try to have a range of models that is beyond single digit numbers in any category. The backbone product is simple with variations usually about size of memory, screen or speed. The rest shares so much that it really does have the family feel. Kudos to Apple. The question always begs…what’s next? S.
